Trivia (Who Fax)
- This story was originally written for the DeNatale Doctor.
- casebook.org was a significant source of research.
- This is one of the few purely historical Doctor Who stories, with no science fiction elements involved.
- Because of the nature of the story, it was intended that ultimately everything must be left historically intact. This was why Jack the Ripper had no lines and had no interaction with the Doctor.
- Both P.C. John Neil and Inspector Abberline were historical characters, each having some attachment to the Ripper case.
- Writer Shelly Dean is an amateur "Ripperologist", hence one of the reasons why she wrote the story.
- Of the two characters, Sarah Winthrop and Father Flanagan, [Shelly] Dean had wrote in the script notes that one of them had followed through with the temptation they faced and one did not. However, the notes did not specify which was which.
- The role of Sir Litefoote was intended to be larger and involve a subplot of hampering the investigation to discredit Scotland Yard, but the plot was scrapped early in development. Nevertheless, Litefoote's role was kept to provide tension during the investigation.
- It is interesting to note that this story has the only time Christine is heard to call out for her mother.
- This story was assigned a rating classification by the studio due to the attempted rape scene, which was felt to be too strong for younger listeners.
